About Us

The Fourteenth District PTA is one of 29 district PTAs organized by the California State PTA. We represent 54 local PTA/PTSA associations (“units”) in Sonoma, Lake & Mendocino Counties. As of the 2010-11 membership year, there are 10,018 active PTA members within 14th District.

The district serves as the connecting link between the local unit and council/area PTAs and the California State PTA, and is responsible for collecting information from units and councils to send to State PTA, and also for disseminating information from State PTA to units and councils. 14th District also provides numerous resources to unit and council PTAs, including officer training events.

14th District also puts on events for schools and associations - Our Teacher of the Year event celebrates those teachers who stand out at their unit PTA, in which we present Honorary Service Awards to members of the community who have made significant contributions to PTA.  We hold a “You’re on the board, now what?” PTA Training event in the spring, covering basic board rules & training intended for incoming board members. There is also an extended training event in August which comprises of training in each key are of PTA, as well as wonderful workshops with information on various areas such as Walk to School, Nutrition, Grants & Scholarships, etc.  In addition, 14th District hosts Candidates Forums when county school board elections are approaching, and also represents PTA on many county and community committees. 14th District is also a contributor to the High School Scholarship programs in our counties.

 Areas and Councils

Many units within 14th District are either organized within a PTA Council, or an Area.  The Council president and area supervisor are responsible for providing assistance to the units.

The council is a PTA organization which typically covers units within a school district. Councils have their own executive board and meetings. The council level is responsible for providing trainings, and leadership to their unit officers, etc. Council presidents represent their council and its units at the 14th District board meetings.

Units which have not been organized under a council are deemed as ‘out-of-council’ units, and fall directly underneath 14th District. 14th District areas are assigned an Area Supervisor from its Board of Managers to assist the units within the area.

If you are a unit officer and have a question about PTA, it’s recommended that you contact your council or your area supervisor first.
